The Heritage Trees® Program
Ongoing Heritage Trees work
- Staff support for the Forest Health Initiative: Heritage Trees is IFB's initiative to reintroduce threatened species in our forests. The Forest Health Initiative is a public-private partnership to advance forest health through biotechnology. While the IFB is providing staff support to the Forest Health Initiative on a contract basis, the Forest Health Initiative is an independent, stand-along program.
- Genomics of Forest and Ecosystem Health in the Fagaceae (Beech Family): An international meeting coming in November 2009.
Foundational Heritage Trees work
The Heritage Trees program works to salvage and reintroduce threatened and endangered tree species. Our work focuses on opening dialogue among scientists, practitioners, and policy makers to establish a course of action. These dialogues coalesce partnerships and augment individual efforts in a way that is thoughtful, practical, and non-competitive to all parties.
Heritage Tree Work has included:
- Heritage Trees Program Vision and Implementation Plan Created 2004.
- Fraser Fir Workshop: Held Dec. 11, 2002.
- Heritage Trees Workshop: Developing Partnerships, Strategies and a Practical Program, a workshop focused on an American chestnut project, held Nov. 1-2, 2001.
